JAMES NIHAN WOODBURNINGS

When the Tornado of '98 hit the Nashville, Tennessee area 1,400 trees were destroyed at The Hermitage, Home of Andrew Jackson. With a background in art, James went to work burning Hermitage scenes on wood from the fallen tulip poplar, cherry, cedar and shagbark hickory trees. His art has been featured in Nashville on the Channel 5 News and on Talk Of The Town and he has been the guest of several juried art shows.

James continues to work in this medium. Using temperatures of up to 1,800 degrees and incorporating natural wood grains, and sometimes bark, into the designs of the subject, the result is a richly toned original piece of art. He also does burnings of other historical homes and landmarks on a variety of woods including river birch and oak or birch panels. A native of the New England coast, he has also created a series of lighthouse scenes.

He is available for private commissions. If you have a photograph of a family home, wedding site, boat, old barn etc. and you would like an original woodburning, contact James to discuss his reasonable rates.
