"The Art of Letting Go" (To the Ladies of Big Sur)
Words & Music by James Nihan
She lies upon a bed of redwood needles
Deep within the hollow of a tree
and dreams that every little tiny seed'll
Grow into what it was meant to be
Outside, the shamrock shoots
Shimmer with desire
As she rises from the roots
And spirals to the spire
She winds her way beneath the Santa Lucias
On a path that leads her to the waves
In her heart she knows that she's as free as
All the souls arisen from their graves
A pearl upon the strand
Shedding all but skin
She dances on the sand
Till the ocean calls her in
She melts the sun above her
The condor slips below
She is the greatest lover
Her heart will ever know
She builds a masterpiece of kelp and driftwood
Stacking stones before the tumbling tide
It brings her joy in ways no other gift could
Giving back what's given without pride
She is not concerned
With the ebb and flow
She's already learned
The art of letting go
She's already learned
The art of letting go
