"I Am"
On the edge of Sedona we hiked high into the red rocks...
Hunter, Rick, David, Shanti, Dawn and others...following Rita Rivera
...destination unknown. May 2002
Words & Music by
James Nihan and Dawn Zurlinden

I followed those before me
Up from the desert floor
In footprints worn into the sunburnt stone
And I dwelt upon the story
I chose to live no more
It would soon be just a pile of bleaching bones
As I stepped inside the shaman's cave
I was asked, "Are you ready to be brave?"
I am, I am, I am!
With my sisters and my brothers
We stood inside that tomb
With love in every heart and in between
And the Earth became our mother
And the cave became a womb
And we were born with eyes wide open to the dream
A red-tail hawk went gliding by
And I swear I heard him cry
I am, I am, I am!

On the path with doña Rita
With a prayer for don Miguel
And the warriors of Spirit on the wind
Down through the manzanita
Each moment cast its spell
Allowing us to end and to begin
We felt the joyful wings of hummingbirds
As we came face to face with these words
I am, I am, I am!
